Happy Fab Friday Lovelies! Virtual hugs and good thoughts for all of you!!

AfroFreshNews

Lately on the blog, as you can see, things look a little different, while it’s not finalized just yet. Our 2015 and beyond together will be a blast and a more fab looking one at that. I am working diligently behind the scenes to make content easier to find, update all old information, and as well fill you all in on what’s been going on with Afroniquely You (AfroU for short) plus what’s on the horizon.

Afroniquely-You-Blog-Planner-Giveaway

This week, I managed to team up with Laura of The Native New Yawker and Party Over Hair to do a really cool giveaway for a super dope blog planner! Like, check out all it offers and enter to win.

I also wrote a really inspiring post to encourage us as women to not only do our best, but to always push forward to encourage and uplift others.

I guess from the tone of the inspirational/motivating post you can see a glimpse of future topics here on AfroU.

comingsoon

Next up on AfroU is a series to help fellow bloggers, some more giveaways, updates on what’s in the future for this site – you guys and myself as it relates to the blog. I hope you all will hang around and stick it out with me. It’s been such a fun ride thus far, 2014 wasn’t an easy one, but I’m so grateful for it!

Inspiring Women

6

Good evening lovelies! It’s Monday, and while it may seem gloomy outside it doesn’t have to be your mindset. We are only a few days from a much needed holiday, and time to really spend celebrating the warmth and love of family. Today’s the perfect day to inspire someone to be better at all the good things they seek to do.
In fact today is a celebration for me, my mom is celebrating her birthday to today (yay!!! Happy Birthday Mommy!) and over the years while we may have our differences, our ups and our downs, we’ve totally had the consistency of love and none the less she’s inspiring – reminding me to push through all adversity and to always seek to do better. I’m also really happy that Glam and Nissan got together and created this really neat Haute Haven’s campaign, geared at empowering women!

Sometimes as women, it’s so easy for us to get caught up in the “I want to do this but can’t”, “I failed now what?” and the “I’m not cur out for this” because we fear greatness or we fear being someone who pushes past the crazy moment of despair and turmoil. Think of a time you saw some other woman who truly inspired you, why did she do that? Was it her confidence? Was it her perseverance to go-get what she says she will?

Be-Inspirational-Afroniquely-You-Blog

You see, today I was also inspired by this really neat video featuring Cathy Hobbs. For a lot of you who don’t know, I’ve been a silently obsessed person for interior decor, and have stalked and watched all the DIY and home decorating channels for years (literally)!! Because I just love it, and I think it kicks my designer self into a happy euphoric bliss just seeing spaces go from blah to ah-mazing! Due to that,  it’s awesome and inspiring to see an African American Woman not only set out to become good at what she does, but to thrive at it! Meet Cathy Hobbs:

Cathy Hobbs

Admit it, isn’t her space gorgeous?! And that apartment in NYC is certainly a one-of-a-kind deal. Cathy is featured as one of the #HauteHaven’s for Nissan and Glam Media. Talk about cool! That has me thinking, if I push myself to do bigger things, I too could be  sharing and celebrating with brands or people that resonate with what I do in design, or here on my blog. You see, we may think that we can’t accomplish something, but realize and know, we are so capable of having it all if we just set our hearts and minds to it. With much trials and errors, we too can become that woman inspiring others to lead a trailblazing life. And let’s take a moment to talk about that car! Neat right? I can’t wait to own my own ride! With its stylish looks and premium interior, the Nissan Altima is just as much as an individual as you are. Not fitting into one mold is what makes the Nissan Altima not only unique, but very exciting!

Tell me below, which women inspires you? And how are you blazing your trail to inspire others?

Today’s discussion was sponsored by Nissan via Mode Media.  The opinions expressed herein are completely mine and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of Nissan.

Be A Stellar Blogger! + Giveaway

13

Hey lovelies! Ok, ao the year end is almost upon us, and with that, my birthday is coming up and I’m super excited. As I reflect, I see how many pitfalls I had this year, and where I could have been a much better blogger, granted I even had the 2014 Blog Calendar by The Native New Yawker, and I still fell off (mostly due to some really crazy life events this year). But it had me think, what does it take to become a better, no, a stellar! blogger? Is it money? Is it fame? Is it some real 24/7 interaction with readers? While all these things will factor in, one good tip I learned from Yuli, is planning is always a big help!

Tip: Be Organized+Keep everything in a planner

I’ll tell you this, mental and physical organization is crucial ins succeeding. In fact, those in this blogging game will tell you, an Editorial Calendar can be somewhat of a lifesaver. Dreams and visions I’ve wanted to implement here on Afroniquely You for a while, I’m finally taking the steps towards them, and I know you’ll love them. I’ll tell you that it will include a whole lot more beyond just hair and natural community. Point is, stay organized and focused because it will help propel you forward! Thankful Thursdays

0

Happy Happy Thanksgiving my loves! I have a ton to be thankful for, like life, a roof still over my head, a husband with whom I’ll be celebrating one solid year tomorrow (squeal!) and just honestly this year and how I’ve made it through, learned from it and just what Jesus has continued to bless me with. While the entire year wasn’t the greatest, there were some majors downs (some that honestly I’m still trying to figure out why they happen), but I am thankful because in everything, we can learn and we can grow!

I wanted to leave this super fab graphic I made just for you all!

Now go on, enjoy your family and friends and remember an attitude of gratitude is always excellent to posses.

Swoon List: Oct 2014

0

Hello Lovelies! Can you believe the month of October is almost over? Where is time flying to?? Hope you all are well, treating your tresses right and embracing life for all it’s worth. I wanted to come by and share some goodies I’ve been eye-lusting, loving and ones that are just list worthy.

Check out my picks below of swoon worthy goodness

one / two / three / four / five

Number four or the Just Natural Leave-In Conditioner deserves a special mention. I’ve been using it for a little close to two months now and it’s amazing! It does wonders on thick curly hair like mine and it’s really lightweight, and offers a good deal of moisture to parched tresses.

Also deserving of a bit of praise is that eBook by Yuli Ziv! It’s fantastic for any blogger looking to really make moves forward in monetizing or just doing better. I’m certainly learning a good deal from reading it so far.

Tell me, what’s on your swoon list this month? What can’t you go without?

Blowdry your natural hair without the damage

4

Hey lovelies, sometimes as naturals we want to switch it up, do something different and just give our hair a change. Often times that change involves some heat. But using heat shouldn’t mean having to start over. For the longest time, I had the worst results ever with doing a blow-dry to my natural hair. Mostly due to the bulky size of the blow dryer, or just my ends would get tangled fast, or I didn’t have enough time – point is, it was tedious.

I did get a better grip of blow drying (which I  only do when I plan to straighten my hair like once or twice a year, or if I need to heat set perm rods or something), but this video I came across recently by the ever awesome Reniece totally blew my mind! If you’re into blowdrying you will love this method.

Genius right?!? Like how simple is that? Section the hair off, blowdry from the ends and work our way up! I so look forward to trying this on my next session with the blowdryer.

Here’s the quick run-down for you video skimmers:

  • Start on clean freshly washed and deep conditioned damp hair
  • Section the hair into smaller sections
  • Apply heat protectant of your choice
  • Use the tension method starting on the ends first then move upwards
  • When that section is dry proceed to the next section
  • If your hair dries out prior to blowdrying- mist with water
  • That’s it!

As a bonus here’s a video of Reniece’s awesome hair journey!

If  you haven’t already, be sure to follow her on:

Youtube | Instagram | Website

So what do you think? Ever tried this method? Would you try it?

Beauty Bar: Michael Todd Skincare Review Part One

1

When you’ve got sensitive skin like myself, it can be a chore trying to find the right products. Especially ones that won’t leave you with an allergic reaction. I found the Michael Todd products via youtube and was intrigued that they were not only natural but targeted for sensitive-acne prone skin.

Today I’m doing a intro review (and will follow up in around December with an extensive view of prolonged use) on the kit I have, and I hope it will give you insights into whether or not this could be for you.

The Kit comes as a neat travel-sized kit including their cleanser, toner, moisturizing lotion, mask and a scrub – which ultimately are their most well liked products based on reviews. I enjoy that the kit is small enough to take with me in a purse if I choose, but is still big enough to get multiple use out of it.

When I first got the kit, I was skeptical because everything just seemed so–tiny. Needless to say, I quickly found out that a little goes a long way.

The Cleanser

This dark charcoal looking stuff is not your average cleanser. It comes out of the pump in an almost liquid-cream-serum (yeh, weird to place the texture really), and it applies almost as though nothing is happening, but once a little moisture hits it, it foams up (not by much though). I notice it leaves my face feeling refreshed and clean

The Toner

The toner is light and refreshing. I don’t find it to be drying as most other toners tend to be on my skin. I find that the toner leaves my skin feeling fresh and afterwards I haven’t noticed any peeling or irritation so that’s always a great thing!

The Other Products

So far I haven’t really used the moisturizing lotion as much as would like yet to give a conclusive first thought. I will say it doesn’t dry me out, and it applies smoothly. Other than that, I’ll leave my final thoughts after I’ve really used it a lot.

I am not a huge fans of masks and scrubs (which is odd considering when I was younger I was on a beauty ritual every week doing either or) these days – it could be I got so used to not doing them as often anymore that now it’s hard to jump back into the habit. Either way, I am waiting till I’ve used both of these products more before I chime in with my real thoughts.

If you’re interested in trying out the Michael Todd Skincare kit, I’d say go for it. I really like that they use natural ingredients and that the company’s focus is to avoid using toxic things in their products.

While I was sent this product line to do a review, please know that the opinions expressed are completely my own unbiased views.

Hi lovelies! Happy Monday to you all. It’s already September, I’m sitting here like “where did this year go already?!?!”. Soon we’ll be bundled up in jackets up to our eyeballs and unfortunately slipping around on ice (can you tell I am no winter fan?). Anyways, recently I came across this post on Pen and Peplum sharing little moments in life at the current moment. I felt it was a great bit to share, so I wanted to give my go at it.

Let’s Talk Confidence and beauty…

Another thing I wanted to share in light of all the recent situations going on across social media. I think as women we need to have real discussions about our worth and our confidence. Too many times we shy away and hide behind self-created walls, but why?

Have there ever been a time you felt at your worst or felt as though you weren’t worthy? I wanted to let you know you are beautiful, you are strong! You are needed and you are loved. Confidence comes from your own self acceptance and it’s time we as women help propel the positivity forward. I am so Glad that U by Kotex has opted to help spark conversations on confidence, and just inner beauty with women everywhere.

Share with me, what’s one thing about yourself that leaves you exuding confidence and shining your beauty?

Save the undies with U by Kotex

In fact, U by Kotex wants to also help us feel a bit safer and less icky during that time of month and they created the #savetheundies campaign with these wicked cool pads that have a 3D capture core (which I wrote about in all their glory prior) that will help bring relief to not only your undies but your sanity during that mucky time of the month. What’s in My Bag? + U by Kotex

2
U by Kotex pads - shad's summer bag

It’s summer and usually I’m living for the beach, hit weather and fun. My bag tends to be fairly empty and also somewhat eclectic. I haven’t done a what’s in bag before so I figure this would be fun to do.

Inside Shae’s Bag: the Summer Edition

My favorite purse of all time has got to be this animal print tote via C-Wonder (see photo above). I got this via an event some time ago and I love it! It’s big but not overbearing and it’s the perfect carry all bag for my summer extravaganza. And besides I’m a sucker for anything leopard print.

Some Essentials

uByKotex-1

so far it’s chock full with sunglasses (yes leopard print! lol), a ton of lip pies, and big secret: I use the Oyin Handmade Burnt Sugar mini for my lips, it works wonders, my reading glasses, water bottle, tablet, busted phone, headphones and some keys. I also always stash some form of hand lotion.

uByKotex-2

pocket change, a few pens (this is literally two of too many actually in my bag), metro card (the NYC subway’s bff), a bunch of food cards lol, handy mirror, hand sanitizer and a few headbands because you never know when you’ll need to put the natural hair into a puff.

Other than those items above it really varies from trip to trip daily. But something else I tend to carry on hand is that lady’s best friend when aunt flo comes around: you know what I’m talking about- the sanitary pads/napkins.

The intimate pouch:

Save the undies with U by Kotex

Yes ladies, as we are all aware, that time if month can creep up on us unexpectedly sometimes. I usually carry a few pads with me in case I need one or a friend might need one (cause you just never know!) in an effort to help #savetheundies I was delighted that U by Kotex created these awesome 3d capture core sanitary napkins. I mean, they look awesome to walk with (bye bye ugly pads!) and they are pretty comfy. Speaking of pads, am I the only one who lived in fear of ruining my awesome pairs of undies? Well not anymore. Grab yourself a free sample of this new 3D Capture Core pads from U by Kotex and tell me what you think.

Claim Your Free Sample

So some backdrop: U by Kotex® offers a full line of feminine care products for periods including pads, liners and tampons. Outstanding protection that keeps you one step ahead and with their new 3D Capture Core a one-of-a-kind center that locks away wetness to help stop leaks in an effort to save your undies, what’s not to love?

If you’re also on this mission to save your fave pairs of undies from aunt flo, simply go on over to the U by Kotex site and enter your info and snag yourself a sample darling!

Well lovelies, I’ve shared what’s in my bag currently. Feel free to share your bags with me as well.

So far I can tell you that I really am enjoying the LottaBody Coconut and Shea Moisturize Me Milk lotion. It works great for twists and even does a good job of giving a nice twist-out from the small patch I tested it on. I plan to do a full head of twists using it and will chime back in.  Also that C. Booth Honey Almond Nourishing Dry Oil  is like heaven in a bottle!! it smells amazing and really does add a nice sheen to the skin and best of all, my skin and even hubby’s skin feels super soft and  awesome after using it. The other items that came in my box were the:

  •  Herban Shea Sweet Ginger moisturizer – the ginger is pretty heavy
  • Lauren B. Beauty nail polish in Rodeo Drive – a glamorous red
  • Philip B. White Truffle ultra moisturizing shampoo – I need to try this

Overall I’d say the box is well worth it’s cost. Considering you’re getting full sized products and deluxe samples, definitely much more cost effective than buying all these things separately for trying’s sake!

Hubalou Wrap Review -Frizz Buster

0

[st_button text_color=”#ffffff” link=”https://www.afroniquelyu.com/about/disclaimer/” background=”#cf0078″ size=”small” target=”_blank” icon=”fa fa-” border_radius=”0″]PRESS SAMPLE[/st_button]

Hubalou Hair Wrap/Towel Full Review

When the lovely Kate at Hubalou contacted me about this new product that fights frizz and banishes wash day woes, I was intrigued. What is this new found product to hit the market? A towel that dries the hair all while keeping it soft, frizz free and it’s environmentally friendly? Yes please! Today I wanted to share my experience using this towel on Sassy-Belle (my hair), and my honest opinions on the product.

*FTC Disclaimer: (review) – I have recieved this product for free, in exchange for my upfront and honest opinions on the product. All my opinions are my own and are totally unbiased.*

Review1-Claims2

Via the Hubalou website, we can see the claims are pretty straightforward: softer hair, frizz-free hair, quickly drying, helps to put the tangles at bay. The product is also said to be soft to the touch, eco-friendly and is easily washable and very easy to use.

Review2-Consistency2

Hubalou Wrap Said to Replace the terrycloth

I was sent the Plum wrap, and I have to say the product performs awesome! On opening the package, I noticed right away that it was different than the usual microfiber towel and definitely way better than terrycloth (that rough rag like stuff-yuck!). The material of the wrap is smooth and super soft. It’s made of rayon that was created by using 100% Bamboo, and I think that’s pretty neat. I don’t know if it’s the bamboo that makes this product so unbelievaably soft, but whatever it is, it’s awesome!

Another thing I’d love to point out, the wrap is HUGE!! If you’ve ever bought a turbie twist or any microfiber hair towels, you know how tiny they are. This Hubalou wrap is massive!  When you have afro-textured natural hair, wash days can prove to be daunting, especially right after that final rinse. The wrap is such a big size that I no longer worry about getting all my hair to fit in to the towel. It simply fits!

I tried it on several wash days, and even my hubby has tried it on his hair, and the results were the same:

[st_unordered listicon=”success”]

  • hair dried faster
  • hair was left feeling soft
  • I had minimal frizz in my very kinky afro-textured hair
  • the wrap is easy to use and take care of

[/st_unordered]

Review5-Packaging2

I love Hubalou’s packaging! The wrap came in this awesome recycled paper tube, and the wrap was neatly rolled to fit in the tubing. It came with a sheet on how to use it, and I have to say for a very simple packaging, it was lovely. Nothing over the top, and also something you’d love to look at.

The wrap retails for $24 and I have to say it’s a fair price for the quality, the performance it does, and the generous size of the wrap.

Overall I say to go out and get this frizz fighting product. You would not be disappointed. I was truly surprised when I got my package and saw the size of the wrap, it’s more than effective on our afro-textured natural hair and it simply lets us low-porosity naturals especially get our air dry on, while still retaining some moisture. I tend to use the wrap to air dry about 95% and then follow up on the slightly damp hair with my moisturizing and sealing agents. Get this product NOW! You will love it!

Fresh Start 2014

2

It’s been a whole month and 17 days into this new year and I am NOW just writing my first post of 2014!!! Crazy right? I hope you all had a fab Valentine’s Day and President Day Weekend. I’ve been rather mia but only because life around these parts have gotten crazy hectic and even at times, internet land was down in my neck of the woods (aka at home).

Some updates

Now that I am back, you may notice a few changes. The blogazine looks updated and fresh, a push towards it’s new direction. Being that I am a classic-modernista (I love simple classical chic things with modern flair), I wanted for the longest while, a site that not only breeds information and quality content for you all, but that would be easy on the eyes and truly a reflection of me. I am NO WHERE near done with this update, in fact I have tons more to do. But I must say I am pleased with the direction this is taking. Feel free to tell me below how you’re liking it too.

I’m off to a fresh start. I’m looking forward to once again doing hair and beauty features on the site. If you’d love to be featured, do let me know. I’m also looking forward to having a few contributors on the site. This would be a volunteer non-paid contributor position in which interested approved participants write blog posts for Afroniquely You. They would have a guest-author badge, links back to their own site and some other perks. Interested in becoming one of the contributors? Email me!! (send an email with the subject: Contributor to afroniquelyblog@gmail.com)

The year ahead

This year I am really looking forward to picking things up with my Graphic+Web Design. I design websites, craft up printable goodies and can help you make your presence online and in print be fabulous. If you’re looking for a graphic designer, or a web designer be sure to contact me so we can work on your next project.

I also really want to see this blog inspire and empower more young women and men to be who God created them to be, naturally awesome individuals. My aim is to continue to write articles that will highlight our natural beauty and as well give inspiration and help for our lives outside of hair. I also would love to see this platform blossom into something that far expands from natural hair and beauty and into a global outlet for all who want to stay true to themselves.

I know I’ve slacked off on posting for quite some time, and honestly, I had lost my spunk. I felt as though what I wanted to voice wasn’t coming out as I had envisioned and somehow that got me in a spiral of not posting as much. This year I’m back! I’m ready to get back to why I started posting in the first place: to help you!! If you have a topic you’d like me to write about please do suggest it below in the comments.

The TBCH Challenge took a downfall last year due to some unforeseen shortcomings. I debated starting it up for this January, but decided it’s probably best not to. Instead, I opted to start the sessions back up for Summer 2014!! This way we all have enough time to prepare and I also can possibly get a few sponsors to gift the challengers a few goodies for their efforts.

Nothing is impossible at all! Through Christ everything imaginable is totally possible!

All in all, I want this year to be one of difference. One of simplicity, one of impact, one that showcases Christ in my efforts. One that illustrates the natural’s journey, and one that leaves each and everyone of us: inspired and revived for what’s ahead! I hope you’re here along for the ride with me.

Will MSM Make My Hair Grow Faster & Longer?

0

Can MSM be used to make my hair grow faster? Today we’ll find out:

Article By Dr. Phoenyx of DrPhoenyx.com

I recently received this question via email by a young lady who wanted to know if she should start taking a hair growth supplement that “everyone” on a natural hair forum was raving about.

Here’s the email:

Hi Dr. Phoenyx! Thank you so much for all the information that you share about natural hair. I wanted to ask you a question about MSM. I was reading about MSM on LHCF and everyone was talking about how much it made their hair grow. Do you take MSM? Would you recommend it? Does it really speed up hair growth? How much should I take? Where can I get the best MSM?

OK, so we have quite a few questions here and I’ll try to answer them to the best of my ability. Thanks for your inquiry Kayla. I hope my answers help you and any other ladies that are interested in learning a bit more about MSM.

So what is MSM?

MSM, which is also know as methylsulfonylmethane, is a sulfur-based compound that’s found naturally in many foods like milk, seafood, onions, garlic and green vegetables.

MSM-Hair-Growth

How does MSM make hair grow?

MSM is primarily made of sulfur- one of the principle building blocks of hair and nails. So yes, the long and short is that MSM is a supplement that can be taken to help hair growth. MSM helps with hair growth because it gives your body one of its key building blocks for hair. And besides that, it’s also theorized that MSM may increase the rate of hair growth because it lengthens the growth phase (or anagen phase) of the hair cycle.

Where to get MSM?

You can find MSM supplements at any local health food store, at the pharmacy, and at most grocery stores. Like I said before, MSM is found in food, so you can just skip taking the supplement and focus on getting MSM from your food. But there’s a catch. The cooking process does leech MSM from food and thus decrease its MSM content. So, unless you eat primarily raw foods, it wouldn’t hurt to take an MSM supplement This is what I do. I do eat a lot of fruits, veggies and seafood- which are high in MSM. And I also take my own hair, skin and nails vitamins that has been specially formulated with MSM.

Can MSM supplements be used for anything else?

Actually, yes! MSM has been used to treat conditions like pain bone and joint diseases like osteoarthritis and tendonitis. Your body does use sulfur to make things besides hair. In fact, it also uses sulfur to build bones and make cartilage for your joints. So taking MSM isn’t just good for your hair, it’s also good for your body!

A few precautions before taking MSM

Before I close out, I wanted to mention that MSM can have side effects. And as far as how much you should take, there is no Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for MSM. But high doses of MSM might cause nausea, diarrhea, kidney problems, bloating, fatigue, headache, insomnia, itching, or worsening of allergy symptoms in some individuals. Now don’t let this list scare you. MSM is generally safe for most people when taken in appropriate doses. So always follow the manufacturer’s dosage directions on the label when taking this supplement. And finally, if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, it would be wise to get clearance from your doctor before taking this supplement.

And that’s the scoop on MSM! I hope this was helpful and if you’d like to learn more about other hair growth supplements and how to grow healthy and longer hair, check out my book, If You Love It, It Will Grow: A Guide to Growing Long Afro-Textured Hair. Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iTunes.

Do you take MSM for hair growth? Have you noticed a change in your hair, skin or nails since taking MSM?

The Mane Choice Deep Conditioner Review -Natural Hair

7

The Mane Choice Deep Conditioner Green Tea & Carrot Treatment Mask

an in-depth look at the mane choice deep conditioner. Wondering what all the hype is about? Check out the full review below and see if this product is what’s to be next on your list!

Product Claims/Description

For all Hair Types. The Mane Choice Green Tea & Carrot Deep Treatment will penetrate the hair shaft like you’ve never seen before. It’s packed with biotin, green tea, carrot oil, which immediately begins repair on damaged hair. It doesn’t take much of the conditioner to rescue your strands, and was formulated to promote growth and length retention, strengthen, fight against breakage and shedding.

PERFORMANCE/DELIVERY & CONSISTENCY:

There are a few things that must be present in a product for it to woo me just by seeing/interacting with it: packaging and smell! I’m a sucker for anything beautifully made, and anything that smells divine. This product smells more so like clean-tea (if that makes any sense). It doesn’t have a distinct scent of any one note. It doesn’t smell bad, but it’s not my favorite scent in the world, it just smells clean. As far as the packaging, I admire the black sleek look of it. The product comes packaged in a slim-line dark opaque black bottle, with the label completely decked out with full instructions, ingredients, uses and warnings. This makes it super easy to see just what you need to do while in the shower (or however you wash your hair). On a special note about shower water, If your water is “hard” you may have poor results,  try reading some Water Softener Reviews and get the best hair you can get!

As for the consistency, it’s creamy. It’s not runny at all. It’s a thicker type of conditioner, which honestly had me a bit weary, because my hair doesn’t really like super thick conditioners that doesn’t have a slippery feel to them. The consistency is however great for being in the shower and avoiding major mess with tons of product falling everywhere.

This product truly surpassed my expectations in performance. I honestly was not expecting any great results. Yes something good, but nothing great because of how picky I know my hair is. But boy was I wrong. The first time I used this, I left it in for about 50 minutes covered with a plastic cap. I utilized heat for about 10-15 minutes of that time, and for the rest, just let it sit while I completed some tasks. When I rinsed it out, I was surprised to see I had slip in my hair. Going on my hair, this wasn’t a conditioner I’d consider “slippy” but as it got rinsed out, the slip just kept appearing. I tried this product over the course of 3 months and every single time, whether or not I used heat, I got the same results: stronger feeling hair, less breakage, slip on rinse, a little shine. Can you say happy?!

Availability

This product can be purchased online via Amazon or also via themanechoice.com

Affordability

At $17.99 per 8oz bottle this product falls into the mid-range for conditioners. It’s not super expensive, but it’s not cheap. But for quality ingredients I’d have to agree that is priced fairly.

Bonuses

You can get tons of usage out of the one bottle. I’ve been using the same 1 bottle for the span of the 3-4 months and just as the label says: a little goes a very long way! Gotta love that.

Drawbacks

The only drawbacks thus far are the fact that the product is only available online for now, so if you’re not an online shopper, you’re just out of the good stuff. Also, since the product is in a bottle, it’s sometimes a little hard to get the product out of it. Other than that everything is just fine and dandy.

Natural Hair DIY Aloe+Oil Deep Treatment

3
Natural Hair feature JazzyTe

The colder season is upon and protection is going to be our natural hair’s best friend! Staying hydrated, ensuring our tresses are getting deep treatments and keeping those ends up and off our shirts is the only way to beat the winter blues.

I found this awesome DIY Deep Treatment Video that I am sure you’ll love as much as I did. It’s a bit like my aloe+castor oil pre-poo I did a while back, but with some key tips I found really helpful too.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your own natural hair deep treatment:

  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Castor Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Applicator Bottle

You can combine the aloe vera gel with the castor oil, coconut oil and any other oil of your choosing into the applicator bottle. Thoroughly shake it before using. Sometimes it’s a great tip to warm the oils before mixing, this will act as an hot oil treatment with the added benefits of moisture from the aloe vera gel.
