Well here it is, another Did you know…this time it’s traditional African Black Soap also called Alata Samina…Now after doing a lot of reading I am understanding the only true traditional form of black soap is that which is a bar and is in an organic shape with its color being dark brown and not black! The soap is usually made of plantain leaves (and to think how we Jamaicans use plantains for so many medicinal uses, now I know why!) which is high in Vitamin E and F..It also has vitamin A and alot of other good nutrients. They mix this with other natural products such as coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and some others. It’s amazing the many uses of this product. Before shampoo came into being, black soap was used by Africans to cleanse the hair and the skin. Since it is natural it does not irritate the hair follicles nor the skin.
Some of the uses of Black Soap includes:
- Face Soap
- For Acne to help remove bumps and blotches and spots
- To help reverse damage done to skin such as burns, blemishes to name a few
