I’ve been using the Cantu line now for quite a number of years. For myself I found their twisting gel to be awesome! And for my mom it seemed like the entire line was in her favor. Well I’m excited that I got to try their new line up, specifically formulated for the kinky hair girls. Today I am sharing my first impressions and overall thoughts on the products.
Cantu Beauty- Natural Hair Line
In the box I received the Cantu Sulfate Free Cleansing Cream Shampoo – Natural Collection, Cantu Sulfate Free Hydrating Cream Conditioner – Natural Collection, Cantu Leave-In Conditioning Cream – Core Collection, Cantu Coconut Curling Cream – Natural Collection and the Cantu Twist & Lock Gel – Natural Collection
I absolutely love the Twist & Lock Gel for finger coils and twists on my extremely short TWA. The product goes on smooth, and when it dries it has a hard crunch to it, but I found that once you scrunch the hair the hardness disappears.
For my wash day I gave the Shampoo + Conditioner a go, since my hair was dirty and had product build up from using another brand of gel prior. The Shampoo, while it smells phenomenal and really gets the gunk up and off your scalp, left my hair feeling way too stripped. I was disappointed about that. (I will say though, it acts as a great gentle soap for washing your delicates with). Thankfully the conditioner helped to replenish what the shampoo stole. Immediately as I put it on my hair, it started to feel soft and nice again. My curls weren’t popping, but my hair felt tremendously better than it did a few moments ago after rinsing the shampoo out. The conditioner also provides a little bit of slip, so that helps with detangling.
Both the leave-in conditioning cream and the coconut curling cream are awesome for imparting moisture. I recommend doing a thorough moisturize and seal method to get the full benefits. The leave-in is very creamy and it glides on the hair, and a little goes a long way. This particular product is one of my mom’s faves over the years. The coconut curling cream was new to me, but I really liked how it gave a nice soft hold. I plan to try it with the lock and twist gel in the future and see how that combination works out.
Overall I’d recommend trying the line of products. They all smell divine, they work well for the most part (as for the shampoo, if your hair strips like mine, opt for a pre-poo prior to shampooing and that should help combat the dryness).
